Ophelia honors her father’s Army service

Ophelia is an advocate and community leader in her historically Black neighborhood in Atlanta.

She credits her work ethic to the influence of her father, a U.S. Army Veteran who bravely served with the 9223rd TSU during World War II.

With only a 3rd-grade education, her father worked hard to give his children the opportunity to excel in life.

His determination motivated Ophelia to get a degree and pursue the career of her dreams.

Recognizing an unforgettable legacy

Ophelia’s wish was to honor her father by visiting Washington D.C. to experience the monuments and memorials dedicated to his service.

During her wish, Ophelia gained perspective on her own life. Finally, she could proudly acknowledge the strong, fiercely independent woman she is age 71, thanks to her dad.

“I feel like I’m walking in the 1940s. It’s taking me back to the war, and I can feel the presence of my dad.”
