Elayne, 95, from Brookdale Chandler Place in Rock Hill, South Carolina is a very strong-willed woman who always puts her family first. As her health started to decline this past November, she wished more than anything to visit with her son, Greg, one last time before she passes. Greg, 68, has lived in Hawaii for the past 35 years. Although the two live far away, they enjoy talking to each other on the phone once per week. Unfortunately Elayne was put on hospice in November 2015, and may only have a few months left to live. Elayne and Greg have not seen each other over three years, which is why they wished they could be reunited one last time.
Even though Elayne has lived a difficult life, she has dedicated her time to helping those around her. Elayne was a volunteer at a Catholic nursing home as an elder for 20 years. Here, she enjoyed spending time with the older adults and assisting them in any possible way. Aside from volunteering, Elayne loves to read, watch movies, hang with friends, knit and participate in any other social activity that her health will allow.
Since Elayne is on hospice, her heart has been breaking knowing she may never get to see her son before she passes. With her not being physically able to fly to him, granting this Wish would make it possible. Wish of a Lifetime and Brookdale sent Greg to Rock Hill, SC to visit with Elayne from June 13 through June 20, 2016. Brookdale Chandler provided a VIP experience for Greg; he was even able to stay at the community in order to spend more quality time with his mom. Elayne and Greg also enjoyed a special dinner together. Joy, Resident Programs Director at Brookdale Chandler Place, said it meant the world to Elayne to hug her son one last time.
