Four Generations Reunite with Rachel and Jim

Rachel, 90, of Newport Place in Boynton Beach, FL moved away from her family in Louisiana just over two years ago. Since this big move, Rachel was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and has lost a lot of her independence. Her husband, Jim, now cares her for full-time. Back in Louisiana, Rachel and Jim left their entire family including 2 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. As Jim is watching his wife’s Alzheimer’s progress, he is worried they will not have the chance to get back to see their family before she can no longer remember them.

Rachel and Jim have been dedicated members of their community for years. Jim served in the Navy during WWII as a radio operator, and Rachel dedicated her life to raising her family. Together they volunteered at their church for a very long time and continue to be very involved at Newport Place. Because of Rachel’s health, Jim has also dedicated his time to becoming her full-time caregiver.

To honor a lifetime of service and a dedication to family, Wish of a Lifetime and Brookdale reunited the Harper’s with their family once again. On Thursday, May 30th, 2013, three generations of Rachel and Jim’s family traveled to Florida to spend a few days with them. The Harper’s daughter, granddaughter, and 3 great grandchildren all took the trip. The family had a wonderful weekend, and it was an amazing reunion of 4 generations!
