Morris Visits USS Hazard Minesweeper

Morris, 89, is a World War II Veteran who resides at Wilora Lake Lodge in Charlotte, NC. Morris’ Wish of a Lifetime is to travel to Omaha, NE to see one of the only remaining ships like the one he served on-The USS Minesweeper.

Morris served in the Navy from 1943-1945 on the USS Astute AM 148 as a 2nd-Class Radarman. When he joined the Navy, he was 19 years old and had never been on a ship before. Over the next two years, Morris traveled to Hawaii, Seattle, and the Philippines. One of his more memorable experiences was when he and his crew had to battle the seas during a hurricane. After the Navy, Morris worked for a newspaper until retiring in 1989.

On October 25th, WOL and Brookdale sent Morris and his son Alan to Omaha to see the USS Hazard Minesweeper. Morris has a life story unlike anyone else. His times in the Navy, volunteer work, and life with Annie, his wife, make for quite an inspiring story. He has done so much and helped so many in his 89 years. Morris and his son had a great time on their trip and were so thankful to have this wish come true.
