Phil Goes To OKC Thunder Basketball Game

Phil, 94, of Brookdale Oklahoma City West, is the epitome of a basketball fan. He makes sure to watch games whenever they are on television, and has been known to play under any conditions, even barefoot. He considers himself to be an OKC Thunder fanatic, but he has never had the opportunity to attend a professional basketball game before. His Wish of a Lifetime was to see his favorite team play live.

Phil grew up on a farm with 12 siblings and worked hard to help provide for his family. His childhood on the farm fostered an exemplary work ethic that contributed to his later success. When he was a older adult in high school, his family moved to a different farm, but Phil stayed behind and lived with his basketball coach because the coach wanted him to continue his basketball career. After high school, Phil served in the Air Force and was stationed in England for several years. Throughout his life, Phil has always demonstrated a dedication to whatever endeavor he pursued, especially his country, his family, and basketball.

Wish of a Lifetime and Brookdale were elated to honor Phil’s undying dedication to basketball by granting his Wish. We sent Phil, accompanied by his son and daughter, to an OKC Thunder game on November 22, 2015. Phil was thrilled to have this opportunity to finally watch a professional basketball game in person. When Phil sat down in his seat at the Chesapeake Energy Arena to see his favorite team play, he said, “Well, it looks like you’ve found my ticket to heaven!”
