You can always hear Elvis’ music playing as you walk by Ruby’s room. At the age of 75, one of Ruby’s regrets in life is that she never had the opportunity to see the “King” perform live while she had the chance to. Ruby says that she loves Elvis because he has a beautiful voice and she loves his dancing and twisting. Though Ruby loves all of his songs, her all-time favorite is Jailhouse Rock. Ruby knew of a well-known Elvis impersonator that frequents the area named Travis Powell, and her Wish of a Lifetime was to have the opportunity to see him perform live and meet him.
Ruby enjoys helping out whoever she can. As a child she did not finish primary school in order to help out on her family farm, milking the cows and completing field work. She also enjoyed volunteering with her church—singing in the choir for a few years and helping to clean the building. Currently residing at Brookdale Forest City in North Carolina, Ruby enjoys sewing, Bingo, and, of course, listening to Elvis music at all times!
Wish of a Lifetime and Brookdale Senior Living were excited to make Ruby’s Wish a reality by sending her and her daughter Martha to attend the Travis Powell show. Travis went above and beyond, giving Ruby a backstage tour, allowing her to sit in on a meet and greet, and dancing with her! “This was the best day of my life,” said Ruby.
