Trudy Mows the Lawn for her 100th Birthday

Gertrude, or Trudy, is 100 years old and still full of life. After a century, her passion for gardening and yard work has hardly waned. Trudy’s son put it best when he said, “My parent’s idea of family fun was doing yard work. Our yard always looked like a golf course.” After her husband passed at the age of 55 and her two boys moved out, Trudy took on the job of manicuring their property on her own. She loved mowing the lawn, the smell of the fresh cut grass. She still takes every opportunity she can to get outside and go for walks or help out around the community.

Trudy is known at Sterling House of Bowling Green for having a sharp sense of humor, kind heart, and an overall glowing personality. As one staff member put it, “Trudy is good for the soul…She is such a kind person and spreads her joy to others by just being there.” Brookdale and Wish of a Lifetime were happy to help make Trudy’s Wish of a Lifetime come true on her 100th birthday.

On June 9th, Trudy was outside and getting things done on the campus at Bowling Green State University. Trudy mowed the lawn outside Bowling Green’s student center and planted flowers with some of BGSU’s current students. There was a whole contingent there to support her, including her son Buzz, friends and staff from Sterling House of Bowling Green, and even Ohio State Senator Randy Gardner. She also had a very special rendition of Happy Birthday sung by a cappella group Ten40. Per the usual, Trudy brought smiles to everyone in attendance.
