Dora is an 87-year-old resident of Brookdale Weddington Park in Matthews, North Carolina. Her Wish of a Lifetime was to have a circus brought to her community.
Dora has been living at Brookdale Weddington Park for several years now, and she was always known to play piano for the community and be one of its more talkative residents. Unfortunately, Dora has been battling Alzheimer’s for the last couple of years and it has deprived her of the mobility and communication skills she was once known for.
Dora’s daughter and the staff at Weddington Park know that one of the things that still elicits a reaction from Dora is being silly. Nurses are always sure to make faces at Dora whenever they see her and the smiles they get may not appear big on the outside, but they’re big on the inside.
Wish of a Lifetime, along with the staff at Brookdale Weddington Park, was happy to bring some joy into Dora’s life by having a circus at the community. Dora was treated to a performances by the Carolina Clowns, enjoyed cotton candy and snow cones, and had the whole community rally behind her for what turned out to be a joyful day for everyone involved.
