Norman Hears his Favorite Willie Nelson Tunes

74 year-old Norman, a resident of Brookdale Boynton Beach, claims that Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again” is the theme song to his life. His Wish of a Lifetime was to have a band come to his community so that he could enjoy the songs of his favorite musician with his friends and family.

Norman spent most of his career as a court bailiff in New York City, but to make extra money he used to sell uniform shirts to court officers in the Bronx. However, it wasn’t just about the money for Norman—he used to take kids from the inner city with him to make these sales. He would teach them sales techniques and help them make money so that they could find a way out of the tough situations that they were generally living in. Some were able to make enough money to go to college and a lot of them kept in contact with him for years after, some still to this day.

It was during this period that Norman developed a love of Willie Nelson. “On the Road Again” just fit with his lifestyle, so he listened to that and other Willie Nelson tunes when he was in the car. He then passed on his love of Willie Nelson to his family and it became the soundtrack to their road trips. Norman claims that he liked Willie Nelson before he became a hippie (apparently he came on the scene as a very clean cut performer), but he did used to dress up as Willie Nelson for Halloween with the classic long hair and tye-die tee shirts.

Wish of a Lifetime and Brookdale were happy to bring Willie Nelson to Norman. Local country group Whiskey Six did a special Willie Nelson set and stayed extra long, just for him. Additionally, Norman, who is very slight in build but known for eating huge burgers, enjoyed a quadruple burger from his favorite local burger joint. “He was in heaven. He was dancing with the nurses and staff. I don’t know where he got the energy from,” said Norman’s wife.
