Pat Gets Back Up in the Saddle

Pat, 87, of Sun City West, AZ, is a vibrant and lively older adult with a passion for horses. When Pat was a little girl, she would save up her allowance to take horseback riding lessons. Her love for horses grew throughout her life and horseback riding became a prominent activity in many of Pat’s family trips with her husband and children. Many of Pat’s favorite memories involve horses and she lights up talking about her long history with them. Since suffering a stroke a year and a half ago, Pat has not ridden a horse due to paralysis in the left side of her body. However, she wants the chance to ride a horse again–surrounded by her family and friends cheering her on.

Pat raised four children with her husband until his passing when they were 38 years old. She continued working full-time as a teacher to provide for her family while her children were still young. For over twenty years, Pat has been a key member in the Happy Trails Theater Group, which she started and continues to be a part of. She maintains involvement by directing productions at Brookdale and is loved and adored by her entire community. She has put the needs of her family and others before her own throughout her life and has done it with a giving spirit and fun personality.

Wish of a Lifetime and Brookdale were thrilled to make Pat’s wish a reality by sending her to Camelot Therapeutic Horsemanship equine therapy ranch in Scottsdale, AZ. She spent time riding a horse and taking a trail ride alongside several instructors and her loved ones on August 4th, 2015. Following the ride, Pat and her family and friends enjoyed a luncheon celebrating Pat and renewing her passion for equestrian! A big thank you goes to Mark Skalny Photography for capturing this very special moment!
