Virginia Visits Friends & Family in North Carolina

Virginia B., 93, is a North Carolina girl through and through. Virginia lived in North Carolina for over 65 years, but moved to Texas to be closer to her only grandson and his family just over 3 years ago. Virginia grew up in a military household. Her father was a lieutenant in WWI, her husband was the operator of a B-17 during WWII, and her only son was a Captain during the Vietnam War. Virginia has never felt at home since leaving North Carolina and wishes nothing more than to go back one last time and have a fish fry by the river. Virginia is the only surviving member of her family besides her two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Virginia has always been very active in her community. Being a stay at home mom during war times, she would volunteer at the USO and Red Cross where she would help in any way she could–sending blankets and books to soldiers and making pins for the military wives. Now living in a Brookdale community, Virginia shows up early to activities to make sure that everything is set to go, and is always the first one to welcome someone new to the community.

Wish of a Lifetime and Brookdale were able to send Virginia back to her beloved North Carolina to have a fish fry on the river with her friends on June 25th of 2015. “I had a great time seeing all my friends again and you do not know how much I appreciate what you did for me. I am eternally grateful.”
