Wish Recipient Barbara is a humble, loving older adult who’s always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. She moved from her home state of Ohio to Colorado in 1983 in pursuit of a new career and to start a new life in the Rockies. Today, the 81 year-old Denver resident spends her time painting, planting, making friends, and talking with her beloved daughter Rebecca on the phone.
Barbara said, “Helping others is my purpose in life.” She has many stories of putting others’ needs before her own, but she will not volunteer to talk about the sacrifices she’s made for others. Instead, she likes to focus on how fortunate she is to have her basic necessities taken care of and to be living in such a beautiful state. At age 13, Barbara helped raise her sister’s 6 children before having three children of her own.
It had been over 10 years since Barbara and her daughter Rebecca had seen each other in person. Barbara cherishes her relationship with Rebecca and wanted nothing more than to spend valuable time with her in person. Wish of a Lifetime sent Rebecca from Ohio to Colorado to reunite with her mother.
Rebecca spent a full 10 days with her mother in Denver, a time she described as being “…a complete, total blessing.” The second day she was in Denver they celebrated her 50th birthday together. Barbara said, “I just can’t tell you how happy it made me. It was a wonderful feeling of love and it gave me a push in the right direction.” Barbara hopes to stay involved with Wish of a Lifetime as a local Denver resident.
