Irv Frankil, 86, of Voorhees, NJ is known as the nation’s “sports aficionado” within his Brookdale community. Throughout his life, Irv has seen legends of all kinds, including a home run hit by Babe Ruth. He not only watched, but also played every sport he could in his youth and had a two-year stint in college football.
40 years ago he discovered his fascination for sports hall of fames when he visited the Football Hall of Fame, followed shortly by visits to the Basketball and Horse Racing Hall of Fame Museums with his family. Twenty years have passed since Irv’s last trip to a hall of fame and through out those years he claims that his passion for sports have “kept him sane.”
The consistency of each season helped him cope with the death of his wife and 3 of his 4 children. More than anything, Irv wished to complete his goal and visit the Baseball Hall of Fame Museum in Cooperstown, New York with his remaining son, Barry. He and Barry have a special bond because of the many sporting events they have viewed and Irv’s Wish of a Lifetime was to learn even more about their similar love for baseball and its thrilling history.
Thanks to Brookdale and Wish of a Lifetime, Irv’s Wish came true on July 31st, 2015. Irv traveled with his son Barry to the Baseball Hall of Fame Museum in Cooperstown, New York. He and Barry had an incredible time touring the facility and learning the history and important moments that have taken place in baseball over the years.
