Patricia Visits Sister in Seattle

Pat, 82, residing at Devonshire of Hoffman Estates in Hoffman Estates, IL is a caring, hardworking woman, always putting family first. Growing up with 12 brothers and sisters, Pat had a particularly strong bond with her sister, Julie. Many things have kept these sisters apart, which is why Pat’s Wish of a Lifetime was to go visit Julie in Seattle, WA.

As a child, Pat grew up in a large Catholic family. At the age of six, tragedy struck when Pat’s mother passed away, leaving her father to care for and support 13 children. Pat’s father had to make the heart-wrenching decision to send the six youngest children, including Pat and Julie, to an orphanage run by nuns and priests in Des Plaines, IL. The two sisters became very close. Pat stated that they always knew what each other were thinking and feeling, and their relationship remained strong as they got older. Once Pat and Julie moved out of the orphanage, their lives took different turns as Pat married and started a family while Julie moved to Washington and devoted her life to religion as a nun.

Even though Pat and Julie are separated by geography, they speak on the phone as often as possible. Unfortunately, various health issues have made it difficult for Pat and Julie to communicate. The sisters have not seen each other in over three years, so Wish of a Lifetime and Brookdale reunited them to strengthen their 82-year bond. Pat traveled to Seattle with her other sister, Carmella, to spend a weekend together as a family on May 30, 2014. There they were able to reminisce about old times and finally express their love in person.
