Sherry Reunites with her Mother after 20 years

Sherry, 74, and her mother Elma, 94, had a very special wish in common: they both longed to see each other after 20 long years apart. Sherry lives in a Brookdale community in Orlando, Florida and Elma resides in her home in Jamestown, Pennsylvania, over 1000 miles away. Unfortunately, health and financial constraints had kept the two apart for the past two decades. However, they still maintained a warm and close relationship despite the distance between them with daily phone calls and care packages.

When talking with Sherry about what it would mean to see her mother again, she said, “My mom means the world to me. It was my mom who was there to fill in as mom and dad to me when I was growing up. She is still there for me. I do not think I will see my mom again after this. She means the world to me!” Elma concurred, “I have not seen my daughter Sherry in 20 years! It would mean the world to me to see her again since it has been so long.” Along with seeing her mom, Sherry’s Wish was also to attend her 56th High School Reunion and reconnect with old friends that she had not seen in over 30 years.

With great joy, Wish of a Lifetime and Brookdale Senior Living were able to reunite this remarkable mother and daughter in Pennsylvania. Laughter filled the air as the two sat down, reminising over old photos and memories of long ago. “The moment I saw my mom, I hugged her and hugged her. I was just so happy to see her and she was too…I am just so glad that I got this Wish of a Lifetime!” said Sherry. Both of these older adults have been through quite a bit in their lives, yet their love and devotion to each other has remained constant despite their years and distance apart.
