Lynn Goes Back to the Big Apple

78 year-old Lynn is a resident of Brookdale Vista Grande in Colorado Springs, but she is a New Yorker at heart. Her Wish of a Lifetime was to return to New York City, where she hasn’t been in over 25 years.

Lynn had to leave New York City on short notice when her husband was transferred to California shortly after they were married. She eventually moved to Colorado Springs, but her heart has always stayed in the Big Apple. Lynn was born in Queens and she has lots of memories of growing up there. Some of her fondest memories are with her father. He worked hard and didn’t have much free time. He was employed at a nearby private airport as a pilot and when Lynn was about 12 years old, her dad taught her how to park the airplanes by towing them. When her father did have free time, they used to go to the Museum of Natural History and Hayden Planetarium every time they had a new exhibit.

Lynn has always been a hard worker. Her last job was working for the Colorado Springs Fire Department as a dispatcher. She once coached a woman through labor on the phone, a story which wound up in the Colorado Springs Fire Department History Book. Aside from working with the fire department, Lynn has always been involved with her church, where she attends mass every Sunday.

Wish of a Lifetime and Brookdale Senior Living were happy to send Lynn and her friends Andrew and Diane back to her old stomping grounds. She visited her old neighborhood and saw her old home, enjoyed a show at the Hayden Planetarium and even visited one of the fire stations affected by 9/11 (she delivered the firefighters gifts). Lynn said everything worked like clockwork and that the visit finally brought her closure after so many years.
