Pen Pals Meet After 80 Years

Sadie and Lorraine, two wonderful, 91 year-old pen pals, have been writing each other since 1932. Thanks to Wish of a Lifetime and Brookdale, the two of them met for the very first time on June 14th, 2013.

Sadie is an incredibly positive individual. She’s one of the most active residents in her Brookdale community in Santa Monica, CA. When she was 11 years old, she found a pen pal contact on the back of her brother’s comic book. She wrote to a nine-year-old girl in Honolulu, who responded, suggesting that Sadie write her older sister who was the same age as her. Sadie did, and for 81 years, Sadie and Lorraine wrote each other three or four times a year.

Sadie and Lorraine finally met in person on June 14th, 2013. Having developed a special relationship over 81 years, the two of them were in a state of disbelief seeing each other in person for the very first time. After hugging, laughing, and crying, they boarded a pink limo that took them on a tour of Oklahoma City. The limo then dropped them off to share their first meal together. After staying in Oklahoma for a long weekend, Sadie did not want to leave. They enjoyed every second together and cherished the moments as if they were their last. Both Sadie and Lorraine said it was one of the most meaningful experiences of their lives.
